New member of Staff
Since the beginning of the semester, TRIS has had a new member of staff. Dr Husam Al-Malak, our new lecturer in Islamic Studies, formerly taught in SOAS (London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies), in King’s College London and the Foundation for International Education where he convened different modules on Islam, mysticism, and modern approaches to religion. His PhD (from SOAS) analyzed the significance of Nietzsche’s philosophy on Islamic thought while his primary research interest is in the evolving relationship between religion and ethics, as well as the role of religion in contemporary Middle Eastern societies. Currently he is teaching different UWTSD modules on Islam, as well as on the modern history of the Middle East. We are delighted to welcome Husam whose presence strengthens the school’s expertise in Islamic Studies.
